Mankind’s Reflection

Watch the empires rise and fall.
I know we’ve been here for too long.
Cascading through this masquerade,
Humanities never ending charade.

They gave me this mask at birth,
They called it a name.
They gave me a number and the paperwork,
Then they said

The strongest men, they cry,
When the youngest men die.
And the honest men, they lie
When faced with consequence.
As you’re searching through this broken glass,
For a shard of truth,
You’ll find nothing there but emptiness
Staring back at you.

Consume and consume just like they tell you to,
History’s repeating itself again.
The poor fight the wars and the rich pull the strings,
This is how it has always been.

We’ve run out of land and we’ve turned to the sky,
Dividing it with our invisible lines.
The earth quakes trying to shake us from its back.
Do we deserve to survive?
