lyrics

God Is Dead and So Am I

Heads are bowed as widows cry,
Out into a blood red sky,
That was painted with the lives,
That had been lost on that night.

“I will dry your tears.” She said,
“None of them are truly dead.
They'll always live on in your hear.
The after life is not so dark.”

I had looked her in the eyes.
“God is dead and so am I,”
I uttered and walked away.
She knew not what else to say.

Speechless standing on the stone,
That peered upon their cold, dead bones,
She bowed her head and said a prayer,
For all the souls lost on that night.

“I can't reach you under dirt,”
I fell to my knees on the earth,
And grasped the grass with my hands,
Remembering all of our plans.

They were slaughtered in the woods,
Murdered for no greater good.
The death of thousands for what cause?
How could one bare such a loss?

“What will I do without you?”
I lied above his earthly tomb.
“How could I ever go on,
Knowing you're forever gone?”

“He's not gone.” A voice promised.
She bent down and gently kissed,
His tombstone marked like all the others.
I looked up to see his mother.

She said, “He's with us now, with God above,
Looking down on us with love.
He would want us to believe.
He would hate to see us grieve.”

That's when my heart broke in two,
I could not bare to speak the truth.
There are no gods or after life,
Just lies made for those alive.
“I'm sure he is.” I mumbled then,
I stood and wiped dirt off my hands.
With that final lie... I thought...
God is dead and so am I.
